One #WriteMotivation update coming up

So I have to admit, my focus is not the best today because The Man and I are *this* close to signing a contract on a house. Our very first house. And it is GORGEOUS AND EVERYTHING WE WANTED AND OMG I CAN’T EVEN STAND IT I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES THROUGH OKAY!!1!!!eleventyone!!1!

I’m so excited, but I’m trying to keep it steady. And since it’s the 1st of February, I figured I’d take a look at how I did with my #writemotivation goals.

K.T. Hanna and her #writemotivation campaign has just been an amazing experience so far, and if you read this and you’re a writer and you haven’t been a part of it yet, you need to look it up. Writing can be such a lonely endeavor, and it’s been awesome to have so many people involved cheering each other on, watching them hit goals and make great strides and just bond, even with miles and miles between us.

The campaign for me has been successful in spirit if not in actuality. To refresh, here is what I pledged:

  • Finish revision draft of WIP.
  • Email revision draft to beta readers.

These two kind of go together, so I paired them. The WIP is not finished, but after all of the crises I’ve had with it I’m really, really happy with where it is at. The plan was always to gut it, but I’ve gone beyond gutting it now and I’m not even done. I’m really excited with what it’s becoming, and I have great hopes for it, however it goes.

  • Begin outline of next WIP.

This will probably have to be shelved for awhile. Even after the WIP is done, I might have to look into freelance work to bolster our finances post-home-buying. 🙂

  • Update blog once a week.

This actually got done more or less, and I’m amazed because I didn’t think it would. I could still do more though. I’m beginning to gather blog topics for when my life is boring. (Which is usually.)

So what are my #writemotivation goals in February?

  • Finish the WIP. For real this time.
  • Do better with reading/commenting on the blogs of the January #writemotivation-ers
  • Continue with regular blog posts – once a week.

With everything that’s going on in my personal life right now, I think I’m going to keep it there and just leave it at that! I can get more ambitious once things have settled down a bit.

Right, Gus?

How’s everyone’s January been? What’s February looking like? It’s usually my least favorite month of the year, but it’s starting out pretty damn shiny.

  1. I think #writemotivation went awesomely for January, and I’m so glad to ‘take the trip’ with you again in February 🙂

and yay for the house-hunting! I hope this offer goes through for you!

    1. It’s been a lot of fun – I’ve loved getting to know everyone through the camaraderie of struggling/achieving.

The offer was accepted – now we just have to get through the inspection. Hopefully nothing horrendous turns up!

  2. I have no idea why I didn’t comment yesterday. I was positive I did.

Hope the house-hunting goes well – I’m so happy for you. Must. See. Pictures!

Also – I think you did really well in January. There were days you attacked that WIP like a mofo 😉 And the rest of the year will just get better 😀

    1. House hunting has been productive 🙂 I’m excited about the place that we have an offer down on. Now I’m just crossing my fingers that the inspection goes okay, and then I can relax and feel like, come March, it’ll be OUR house. Yikes! I feel like such a grown up!

Thanks, lady – I thought you did AWESOME. Here’s to a fantastic writing year!
