#WriteMotivation, #TheWritersVoice and the Author I Want to Be When I Grow Up

Obviously I missed the Monday check-in with #writemotivation. It was results day on The Writers’ Voice, and I was, quite frankly, glued to the contest entries, refreshing like mad to see who got agent comments. I was beyond flattered and excited to get requests from Andrea Somberg and Louise Fury. It was a tough contest with a LOT of great entries. To be perfectly honest, I’m a little amazed when it comes to watching the results in contests. There are always surprises, and The Writers Voice was no exception. I had some favorites that I was positive would be crawling with agent attention, and they either didn’t get votes or maybe got one at the end. You’ll hear the “It’s subjective” line over and over again when it comes to the publishing business, and I know it’s subjective, but it’s still kind of eye-opening to see it in action. It was a great contest, I met a lot of really awesome writers and found new people to follow and keep an eye on – people I truly believe will be rocking the epic book deals soon.

Thank you, thank you to all the coaches, especially my coach Brenda Drake. This lady has so much on her plate already, enough that most people would just go, “Yup! Life is full thanks.” But she continues to reach out to and interact with so many aspiring authors, creating contests and opportunities for them to get their break. I really admire that. For that matter, Monica B.W., Krista Van Dolzer, and the mysterious author behind Cupids’ Literary Connection are doing the same thing. Using their free time to help others. It’s the kind of active author I want to be should I ever get published someday.

Okay, enough of that. Let’s do a goal check, shall we?

  1. Finish polish on PD and start querying. In progress. Using the long weekend to put on the finishing touches.
  2. Begin outline of new WIP. *scuffs dirt sheepishly* Noooo…
  3. Post at least four updates on The Man’s and my personal blog. Meh. Didn’t get one in this week. Will try again coming up before the end of the month.
  4. Enter The Writers Voice contest and don’t die. Complete!
  5. Launch copy editing services page. I’ll be honest – I’m waiting on some RL things that are in flux, so this one is on permanent hiatus until that gets sorted out.
  6. Finish crits. Done! Yay!

How’s everyone doing out there? How’s your writing? How are your goals?

Also, guess who has a new favorite show…

Bad. Assery.

  1. nice. congrats on not only surviving the writer’s voice but coming out with two requests! that’s so great! i think that contest was even more nerve-wracking than the surprise agent invasion one. looking forward to hearing more posts about the results of these requests in the future!

    1. If anything major happens, you probably won’t even have to wait for my post. You’ll hear the squeeing from coast to coast. πŸ™‚

  2. Yeah Becks! Way to go. I’m so glad that you had a good time with the Writer’s Voice (even if you did go a little wacky at the end…ssshh…I won’t tell anyone! ;-p) Anyway, you’re doing a great job with all of the things you’ve been doing.

And yes, Brenda is awesome for setting all that up. From the various tweets I saw, you guys were all working really hard.

P.S. I love Burn Notice and need to get back into watching it. πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks! πŸ™‚ And yeah, The Man and I just started watching it on Netflix and finished off the first season last night. It was totally intense!

  3. I’m still so happy you got requests, and from THOSE TWO!! πŸ˜€ I may be slightly biased, but I love your story so much.

I adore Burn Notice too. I knew there were lots of reasons I adored you ❀
