That’s Right, Nerds – I’m Giving Away THE LOST SUN by @TessaGratton

It’s about damn time, right? I’ve been promising this for freaking ever! But I’ve finally got two seconds to put together this post and show off my goods: an autographed hardback copy of THE LOST SUN by Tessa Gratton.

Here’s the summary from Goodreads:

Seventeen-year-old Soren Bearskin is trying to escape the past. His father, a famed warrior, lost himself to the battle-frenzy and killed thirteen innocent people. Soren cannot deny that berserking is in his blood — the fevers, insomnia, and occasional feelings of uncontrollable rage haunt him. So he tries to remain calm and detached from everyone at Sanctus Sigurd’s Academy. But that’s hard to do when a popular, beautiful girl like Astrid Glyn tells Soren she dreams of him. That’s not all Astrid dreams of–the daughter of a renowned prophetess, Astrid is coming into her own inherited abilities.

When Baldur, son of Odin and one of the most popular gods in the country, goes missing, Astrid sees where he is and convinces Soren to join her on a road trip that will take them to find not only a lost god, but also who they are beyond the legacy of their parents and everything they’ve been told they have to be.

Fans of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and Holly Black’s The Curse Workers will embrace this richly drawn, Norse-mythology-infused alternate world: the United States of Asgard.

I’m also giving away an ebook copy to one other lucky winner because…well, because. Honestly, I have no other reason for this giveaway other than I really loved this book. Gratton is spinning together new myths within the framework of old myths, and it’s pretty awesome. She’s created a really unique twist on Norse mythology with very layered world-building. I saw all these other little possibilities of new stories within THE LOST SUN’s universe, and I’m so excited to read those as well. And the writing! Seriously, guys, the writing in it is GORGEOUS. Lyrical and evocative. I got totally swept up in it. Hopefully, you will too.

That’s it! Go enter! Tell your friends! Tell your family! Oh, and:

  1. My favorite myth or legend? Picking a favorite myth would be hard (it would likely be one of the Greek ones, but even that leaves soooooo much to choose from), but my fave legend is easy: Robin Hood! I have a crush on the very idea of charming thieves with good hearts. (:

  2. Favorite myth or legend? Right now it would have to be Dionysus. Utterly weird god with strange parallels to Christianity, who looks after the people no one else cares about and deals in insanity? Yes please.

  3. i always loved the story of the amazons – any tribe of strong women who kick ass? very cool. although not so excited about the whacking off the breast to be better archers thing, but hey, talk about dedication.

  4. I had not heard of this book but the description sounds absolutely amazing! I suppose this doesn’t really count as a legend because its been disproved, but growing up I loved the stories about Anastasia… I still sort of wish it was a mystery still so I could imagine a whole secret royal family out there in hiding somewhere 🙂

  5. I read the “look inside” feature on amazon and immediately wanted more. it sounds SO clever. Glad to have found your blog & am enjoying following/joining the convo on twitter. Cheers!
